About the Class

Self Defense at Adapt Jiu Jitsu builds on the original 36 self-defense techniques from the 1950s Gracie Academy, adding innovative methods to counter hair grabs and pulls—common in women’s self-defense scenarios—plus techniques to handle threats of unwanted advances or abduction. We focus purely on practical self-defense, with no sparring, emphasizing skill through drills and repetition.

Our self defense curriculum is built directly into the beginner jiu-jitsu program during the White Belt to Two-Stripe phase, where students train with others at a similar level in a safe, structured environment. Across 60 classes, they develop core techniques through guided drills and structured repetition, building confidence and skill before transitioning into live sparring.

Who’s It For?
Designed for students of all levels, from beginners to those with experience, who want effective self-defense skills. Ideal for anyone looking to feel safer and more confident without stepping into sport jiu jitsu.

What to Bring/Wear?
A clean Gi is required (available for first-timers if needed). Wear comfortable underlayers or rash guards and bring a readiness to train—no additional gear necessary.
